Chinese tourists visiting Sri Lanka now have the added benefit of purchasing goods and services and paying for them through WeChat Pay, consequent to a partnership between SwiftPass, the leading mobile payments service provider, and Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC.
Sri Lanka, which is well known as the Pearl of the Orient, is named the number one country in the world to visit in 2019 by the travel guide company Lonely Planet. Over 260 thousands Chinese travelers visited Sri Lanka in 2017, which makes China the second biggest source of inbound tourist group. This number is expected to reach a record high by 2018.
As the only Sri Lankan Bank to be ranked among the world’s top 1000 banks for eight years consecutively, Commercial Bank operates a network of 266 branches and 830 ATMs in Sri Lanka. The Bank’s overseas operations encompass Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the Maldives.
